Uphill Cardiac Wellness Centre offers the first unique home-based cardiac rehab program that assists patients in developing their knowledge in healthy eating and living. The home-based program is an informal, friendly and relaxed environment that meets once a week for one month. The meetings are held at the Y.M.C.A. located at 20 Union Street, Brampton (Just off Market Square Road, near 4 Corners).
By the end of the program, you will know:
- How to exercise your heart -safely and effectively
- About your heart and cholesterol
- About your medications
- Your stress levels, understand the emotional changes that you might have experienced
- The methods of relaxation that suit your lifestyle
Prior to joining the program, you will need to:
- Complete our survey
- Complete a pre-stress test at Uphill Cardiac Wellness Centre - this will give the Doctor an indication of your fitness level and your individualized training heart rate
The Program consists of once a week sessions over a four week period, with the third Tuesday of every month the chance to have a tour of different food types at Fortinos.
Week One:
- General introduction
- Simple to follow heart anatomy and risk factors for Coronary Artery Disease
- Importance of and how to measure your heart rate
- Warm-up and stretching exercises prior to doing any exercise
- Walking
Week Two:
- Importance of Medications and Q & A with Dr. L. Hill
- EECP as an alternative to By Pass Surgery
- Exercise
Week Three:
- Nutritional diet and importance of watching cholesterol levels
- Exercise
Week Four:
- Impact Coronary Artery Disease has on family members
- Exercise
